Beggar boy on the train to Chennai
He slid along the floor
of the car, sweeping
into his arms all the
garbage's potential, his hair
perfectly sculpted,
his face in equilibrium,
taking and sending
the matter of being,
exchanging with the
eyes of passengers
looks not despairing
but grateful.

Healing
Just behind
our failure, a broken
man is undoing
our old haunts with a
crane like a spiritual
arm that unbends at
the crook, its
jagged cup emerging
from ruins with
an offspring of bright.

The madness of wanting
Chinese Empress Cixi's greed was so great
that her heart could not be contained
in the three-hundred ebony jewelry boxes that surrounded her at her death.
When she died, her servants placed her jade drinking cup next to her eyes-
so that all things she had lusted for might flow at once out of her
and back into the world where they were meant to be free.
And the great ships of the Chinese navy that she had dismantled
to build her Summer Palace
appeared in the sky, as if a ghost,
and called for the long reign of dynasties to join them.
