Mesquite Missional Community
The Riddel's Home
Providence Community does not view membership the way many churches do. Many people "attend" church today and view membership in a church like they would a membership to a health club or a country club. In other words, they pay their dues (offering on Sundays) and in return expect to receive certain benefits and privileges (programs for their kids, weekly motivational speech, etc.). However, this is not the biblical concept of what it means to be the called out people of God who are on mission with Him. Therefore, membership in Providence Community means two things.
First, being a member in Providence means being part of community. In the same way that fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters live as a part of each other’s lives, members of Providence live as a family. Our experiences together include triumph, defeat, joy, sorrow, and above all, a common adventure to seek God’s glory in our lives.
Second, being a member in Providence means that you are a missionary. You are a missionary to your community in the sense that you learn their language, learn their values, learn their philosophies, and furthermore learn to make bridges into their culture with the gospel message. Mission is not the responsibility of hired pastors or vocational missionaries, but rather the church is the missional people of God and therefore all members are missionaries.
